ABOUT
We think-up, relevant, commercial ideas.
Sursum Creative works with retailers, brands, wholesalers and manufacturers who have development capabilities and typically in the; Party & Drinking, Novelty, Gadget, Game and Toy categories.
We are focused on taking opportunities that you or we have uncovered and turning them into ideas via creative concept generation, design evolution or inventive thinking.
We’ve delivered on briefs no longer than 5 words long to jointly producing thorough briefs for client’s in-house NPD teams to take forward. If we think we have a great idea we also approach with concepts.
Our starting point is to understand client or partner strengths, goals and customers. We’ll always factor the trends, current and new, but in this impulse driven area - social context, consumer desire and intrigue are always king.
Philosophy:
Companies operating in the real world can rarely afford the luxury of working in a totally blue sky environment for long. Therefore, when briefed, we like to act collaboratively and swiftly, working through objectives and possible solutions at sketch level.
We love inventive, marketable ideas that ship – so we focus energy on lines that can be brought to market in a sensible way and within a realistic criterion.
Process:
We’re flexible. Possibly an area will require a degree of research or reporting that we may conduct or, if the ground work is already in place, concepts and solutions can be started immediately. We only spend time polishing or resolving an idea when there is meat on the bones and not before.
Delivery:
We like to keep it simple: words, sketches and pictures are used to provide quick insight – though we can develop to CADs and initial specifications as agreed.
Who:
Sursum Creative is headed by Tom. With a degree in design from Central St. Martin’s, he’s spent years thinking-up product in the gift, home and party categories. After multiple trips to China and working with buyers and factories direct he has a solid understanding of what it takes to move an idea from paper to product.
Latterly, Tom worked in account management (yes – sales) with a focus on product development in the party category - specifically working with UK Grocery stores to understand their market, assess data and develop product.
Having a rounded view of the full product cycle has been highly advantageous as practical experience is applied to product concept from the outset.
